Willard Beach is somewhat unusual when it comes to the beaches of Maine because this beach is actually not located in a National Park or out in the wilderness at all. Willard Beach can be found in South Portland, between Fisherman’s Point and the campus of Southern Maine Community College. This means that if you were hoping to visit a beach that doesn’t require a couple of hours spent in a car or you’d rather just not leave the city limits, you can still enjoy some beautiful coastline.

You can swim at Willard Beach during the summer and it is guarded by lifeguards during the warmer parts of the year. This means that parents can relax a little more as their children take to the water, and those who are less that confident in their swimming abilities can still splash around with confidence. There is also a pavilion that is open during the summer months that has hot showers, bathrooms, and a snack bar for when you get munchy during your time at the beach.

The great part about Willard Beach is how city accessible it is. There are tons of other means of entertainment and dining available in the area, literally a short walk away. While it’s nice to get outside of the city limits and explore the wilderness of Maine while you’re in this part of New England, there is something to be said about enjoying city life.
