Biddeford is a medium sized town with an unusual history. It can be found in the southwestern part of the state, in York County. Biddeford is actually the sixth largest city in Maine, with a population of roughly 21 thousand as of the 2010 census. There is also a large revolving population that comes in and out ofBiddeford in the form of students – the University of New England is located here. In addition to the lively student population Biddeford is also a very popular place with tourists; it includes the resort community of Biddeford Pool, Fortune Rocks, and Granite Point. It also has the distinction of being one of the earliest settlements made by Europeans on the North American continent – European explorers first visited it in 1616.

One of the greatest things to do while in Biddeford is to go downtown and soak up the ambiance. Especially if you come to Biddeford during the school year, you’ll see that the area is alive with students and the University of New England always has something of interest going on for visitors and students alike. If you come during the warm tourist months, you’ll find people from all over the world and all different walks of life enjoying what Biddeford has to offer. The downtown area is historic and contains architecture from all across the board.

Due to Biddeford’s close proximity to the Seacoast Region, which consists of New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts, Biddeford is one of the fastest growing commercial centers in Massachusetts. In recent years, a 500,000 square foot shopping center called Biddeford Crossing opened, featuring 20 stores and 5restaurants. There are even more strip malls that are appearing on the State Route 111 corridor – if nothing else, Biddeford and the surrounding area is a great place to go shopping and strip and outlet malls!
