Chatham Lighthouse Beach is located in the city of Chatham, Barnstable County. Barnstable County refers to the entirety of Cape Cod, and Chatham is one of the larger towns that dot this unique curl of land. Many people come to this part of the country each year to enjoy their summers and spend some time on some of the most beautiful coastline that can be found in the world. Chatham Lighthouse Beach is located just below Chatham Light, which is the name of the active lighthouse that patrols the area. While the beach is a great place to spend time, those who are interested in the science or history of lighthouses should take the time to check it out. Most of the year the lighthouse is closed, but it is occasionally open to visitors and is a unique tourist attraction in its own right.

In addition, Chatham Lighthouse Beach is the largest beach in the town. It’s only a half a mile from downtown, so it is an easy commute to get to the beach, and the swimming here is great. There are certain areas of the beach that are off limits to swimmers due to currents, however, so be careful of your swimming area and be sure to stay where the beach is safe. There are no lifeguards at Chatham Lighthouse Beach so be sure to keep an eye on your kids and swim at your own risk. If there is an emergency at hand the beach patrol is never far away, but the waters are not monitored and guests are asked to exercise caution while they’re having fun in the waters. Sometimes there might be days when the water is not safe to swim in at all – on these days there will be red flags flying along the coast so that you know not to enter the water. However, most days during the tourist season the water is perfectly safe and very clear. Have fun swimming!
