Of course, this doesn’t mean much for those of us who are passing through Rhode Island and would like interesting things to see on our journey. Thankfully, Woonsocket is much more than just a place where corporations do business. In fact, Woonsocket is a very lively and interesting town, with lots of historic buildings to visit. Woonsocket is one of those New England towns where it’s best not to come with a particular agenda in mind – it’s worth it just to spend a day ambling about the town, enjoying the sites and the food that Woonsocket has to offer. Most of the historical sites in the area have to do with the Industrial Revolution, as this is when the town really came into its own and started generating serious cash flow.
The one time of year that Woonsocket really shines and becomes an incredible place to visit is during Columbus Day Weekend. Woonsocket has some of the biggest and best-known celebrations of this day, which has been happening since 1979. The event is held at World War II Veteran’s Memorial State Park. This is a great time to be sure that you stop by Woonsocket and get involved in the activities. The fair draws people from neighboring states and is one of the city’s top draws.
In short, Woonsocket is another charming New England town with a curious name and plenty of things to do and enjoy within the city limits. It’s especially a good place to make a stop if you happen to be travelling between Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Be sure to check it out when you next happen to be in the area.
